Trump Sees Himself as Christ

The image to the left was posted on April 12, 2026, on Truth Social by President Trump. Many Christians and Catholic leaders were shocked, as I was, calling it offensive and/or sacrilegious, which I believe it is. Conservative commentators called it “blasphemous” and “inappropriate” and some evangelical figures said it went too far.

This post came right after Trump publicly attacked Pope Leo XIV over politics and landed very close to the Easter season, making it obvious that it was indeed a Christ-inspired AI-generated image despite what Trump later claimed.

I believe it is deeply disturbing that the President of the United States would post an image depicting himself as Jesus Christ, and is yet another reason I don't understand why Christians support him.

This isn’t a one-off. It’s part of a pattern of increasingly exaggerated, almost mythic, self-portrayal by Trump. In the past he has posted images of himself as a king, superhero, and other larger-than-life people, including at one time the Pope—which should have been a red flag to Catholics then.

Yet Christians still support Trump. I pray that sooner, rather than later, their eyes will be opened.
