Pope Leo XIV on Pro-Life and the Death Penalty:

“A Catholic cannot claim to be pro-life just to take a stance against abortion while, at the same time, saying they are in favor of the death penalty. That would not be consistent with the Church’s social doctrine." and "Someone who says 'I’m against abortion,' but is in favor of the death penalty, is not really pro-life.”

Pope Leo XIV on Deportation:

“Someone who says 'I’m against abortion,' but is in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don’t know if that’s pro-life.”

Later, Leo doubled down on immigration criticism, saying migrants in the U.S. were at times being treated in an “extremely disrespectful” and violent way. He emphasized that countries have a right to borders, but said: “We have to look for ways of treating people humanely."

"Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed?"

Pope Leo XIV on the Iran War:

"The world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants." and "Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs." and "God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have hands full of blood."

"Jesus told us: 'Blessed are the peacemakers!' But woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, or political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth...The masters of war pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy, yet often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild...Billions of dollars are spent on killing, on devastation, yet the resources needed for healing, education and restoration are nowhere to be found."

Trump accused Leo of being “weak on crime” and “catering to the radical left.” Trump also said the Pope should focus on “being a great pope, not a politician.”

The Pope's response: “I have no fear of the Trump administration...I will continue to speak out loudly against war.” He also insisted he did not see himself as acting like a politician, saying his role was to proclaim the Gospel rather than enter partisan fights.

Home run after home run.
